FORT MEADE–Members of the armed services joined with civilians before dawn Friday on the grounds of Fort Meade, Md., to remember the Sept. 11 attacks.
Together they ran a 5K race, 3.1 miles, around Fort Meade to recall the attacks on New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Among those joining in the run was Air Force Col. Mary O’Brien. She was on the fifth floor of the Pentagon when Flight 77 crashed into the building.
While O’Brien and her husband could retire, she said her daughter opposed the idea because they were a military family and she wanted them to stay that way.
**CORRECTION: CNS-TV previously reported that Col. O’Brien’s daughter was in daycare at the Pentagon. Her daughter had recently gotten off the waitlist for daycare at the Pentagon but had not yet enrolled. O’Brien’s daughter was not at the Pentagon on Sept. 11.
