Party Registration by Voting Precinct

This map shows the concentration of Democratic and Republican registered voters within Maryland's Senate districts. In some cases, a Senate district is represented on the map with multiple shapes. The majority of Maryland's populations live in Democratic voting precincts. The level of party representation (strong or weak) was determined by calculating the difference between the percentage of voters registered as Democrats or Republicans in each voting precinct. If the difference was 30 percent or greater the precinct was labeled as strongly leaning to one party. If the difference was between 0.1 percent and 29 percent the precinct was labeled as weakly leaning to one party.
