Maryland’s growing older inmate population presents challenges to correctional system

BALTIMORE, Md. – Maryland, like nearly every other state, is seeing an upward tick in its aging population behind bars. A report by the Maryland Department of Legislative Services finds that prisoners aged 51 and older is the only age group consistently growing in number over the past decade. And, that report says, the trend will require more health care and other age-related services.
