COLLEGE PARK, Maryland — Vice President Joe Biden became the third person awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for work as vice president when President Obama surprised him with the medal Thursday.
Previously, President Jimmy Carter awarded the medal to Hubert Humphrey, who had served under Lyndon Johnson. President Gerald Ford also honored his vice president, Nelson Rockefeller.
