Proposed federal rule seeks social media information on immigrants

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland – A new federal rule under consideration could impact all immigrants, including those who are now citizens of the United States. That proposed rule, due to take effect in October, would allow the Department of Homeland Security to collect social media information on all immigrants, including naturalized citizens. One University of Maryland student, who became a citizen just this year, says the proposed rule is like taking a step back in a battle to belong.
