Maryland schools experience COVID-19 outbreaks while slowly bringing students back to classrooms

Maryland has been one of the slowest states to return students to in-person instruction with only 57.4 percent of students back in classrooms as of April 20. There have been COVID-19 outbreaks at 216 different schools since the state began tracking the data in October of 2020. Currently there are 43 schools (203 total cases) listed on the Maryland Department of Health website with Washington County and Baltimore County currently having the highest number of cases in schools.
