Helping out shelter dogs in need is now easier, and more fashionable than ever. Pearls for Pups is a local non-profit run by a mom and her two daughters. They donate 100 percent of proceeds from their business to rescue shelters.
It’s not just the humans who’ve been impacted by the government shut-down. Many of their four-legged family members have been as well. One local non-profit is helping to fill the need and help with preparing pet owners if federal workers are hit with a second shut-down.

It’s estimated that thousands of horses leave the U.S. every year for slaughterhouses in either Mexico or Canada. Many of those horses have been neglected and forgotten with nowhere else to go. But in Howard County, there’s a 60 acre farm where some extraordinary efforts are giving a second life to horses from around the country that might, otherwise, be on their last leg.
