Some Calvert County residents and environmentalists have raised concerns about the proximity of seven liquefied natural gas tanks at Dominion Resource's Cove Point facility. Dominion is planning to convert the import facility into an export facility that would ship liquefied natural gas from Maryland's shore. The population numbers displayed in the map represent the minimum population living at a given distance from the facility. Capital News Service compiled the population figures by tallying U.S. Census data from census blocks. Only census blocks that fell entirely inside a given circle were included.
