BY JAKE GLUCK | CAPITAL NEWS SERVICE

State Highway Administration officials said they have conducted safety audits along 22 one-mile stretches of state and U.S. roads where 10 pedestrian crashes have occurred over a 5-year period to determine if improvements are needed. Based on limited information provided by SHA, 17 are shown in blue on this map. (There are actually 18 stretches of road shown on the map; one audit area shown in Wheaton includes two disconnected roads). The agency did not provide enough information to precisely locate the other five, and they are not shown on this map. Those five locations included areas in downtown Silver Spring, Bethesda, Towson, Riverdale and Wheaton.
