CNS found that 1982 (pink) had the lowest variation between nominees of any year measured, with Gandhi taking the top prize. The hardest year to earn a nomination was 1993 (navy blue), with the highest average score. In 1975 (light blue), movies faced the second lowest variation between nominees and the second highest average score, perhaps making it the Academy's true "Year of Death". Scores are out of 100, using average scores found on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb.
