Both Ellicott City floods have occurred during seasons with high rainfall

Summer tends to be the season with the most rainfall in the area, while rainfall totals for autumn have declined over the past decade. Rainfall totals in the spring tend to fluctuate, though the spring of 2018 saw the second highest totals since 2010. The most rainfall in any season occurred in the autumn of 2011, when minor flooding occurred in Ellicott City in September.
