Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport set a new passenger record in 2015 of 23.8 million people, according to The Baltimore Sun. In the same year, security officials caught 16 firearms at the airport, according to the Transportation Security Administration. BWI, like other airports in the Northeast, seized fewer firearms per passenger when compared with the nation's other busiest airports in the South and Midwest.

More Firearms Seized at Airports with Laxer State Gun Laws

The Transportation Security Administration seized more firearms per passenger in states with more lenient gun laws, a CNS analysis found. CNS compared the gun seizure rate at the nation's 25 busiest airports with a ranking of state gun law restrictiveness, created by The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. The non-profit organization supports strict gun control measures. Maryland, which has some of the nation's strictest gun laws, saw relatively few seizures. Texas and Arizona -- which have some of the nation's loosest gun laws -- had far more seizures per passenger.
