El Salvador, India and China are Maryland's Leading Immigrant Groups

Maryland's immigrant population echoes the United States'. China, India, the Philippines and Mexico are among the top five immigrant groups in both the U.S. and Maryland. But Maryland has a larger percentage of people from El Salvador -- 11.8 percent of the state's immigrant population -- and a much smaller proportion of Mexicans than the U.S. as a whole.
