Governor Hogan has announced the launch of a 24-hour tip line and a mobile app for Maryland students to help prevent school shootings. The goal is for students, parents, teachers and anyone else to report troubling behavior to try and avoid possible problems. The hotline and the app are anonymous and operate 24 hours a day.

A legislative briefing on Wednesday reviewed the findings the Maryland Dental Action Coalition. The organization told the lawmakers there’s a need for improved access to dental care for adults in the state of Maryland as many are unable to receive treatment only until they are faced with a difficult dental problem. In the 2016 fiscal year, Maryland adults made over 42,000 trips to the emergency room for chronic dental conditions.

Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh announced more than two dozen indictments for people involved in gang activity inside and outside of a Maryland prison. Slurpee, a four-year-old chocolate draft horse, is the newest member of the Baltimore City Police Department. Slurpee, donated by 7-Eleven, has been in training for the past few months. City Police say the horse will be part of their community relations outreach effort.

Montgomery County public libraries trade fines for food donations
Libraries across Montgomery County are letting people pay their fines with food donations. All donated food goes to Manna Food Center, a non-profit that serves as a food bank and pantry for the county. The food drive runs until Oct. 30.
