UMD President fires football coach after Board of Regents reinstates him

Just one day after being reinstated by the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, football head coach DJ Durkin has been fired. The football team players, community and national backlash all lead to the surprise decision from university president Wallace Loh Wednesday evening.  

Maryland Football investigation comes to an end

The University System of Maryland Board of Regents announced their recommendations regarding the state of the Terrapins football team. Head coach DJ Durkin and athletic director Damon Evans will return to their duties at the university. University President Wallace Loh announced he will step down from his presidency at the end of the academic year.

UMD Commission issues report on football program

The Commission appointed by University of Maryland President Wallace Loh to investigate claims of a “toxic culture” in the school’s football program has released its report. The investigation follows the
death last spring of player Jordan McNair. The Commission said the Athletics Department lacked a culture of accountability and failed to provide adequate oversight of the football program. It did not make any recommendations concerning the fates of the football coach or the University’s president. The report now goes to the University System of Maryland’s Board of Regents.

Local sheriffs join in effort to get Congress to approve immigration reform

Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler was among several sheriffs from Maryland who joined with dozens of other sheriffs from around the country on Capitol Hill Wednesday urging lawmakers to approve legislation they say will increase border security and reform the country’s immigration system.
