When it comes to learning about Maryland’s seafood history past and present, there’s a little known museum in Annapolis where visitors can find out all about it through some hands experiences.

Annapolis rally calls on Governor to fully fund mental health, addiction aid

-Hundreds rallied on Lawyer’s Mall in front of the State House on Thursday to urge Governor Hogan to “keep the door open” for those suffering from mental and behavioral health challenges. The demonstrators say the General Assembly last year expanded a program to tackle the heroin and opioid addiction problem. But, they say, the Governor’s budget proposal fails to fully fund it.

Supporters, opponents of high speed rail square off at Annapolis demonstration

With the study still underway into the creation of a possible Maglev route from New York to Washington both supporters and opponents turned out Monday night in front of the State House. Supporters say the high speed train, which could reduce a trip between Baltimore and Washington to just 15 minutes, would be good for the environment. But opponents say the estimated $10-12 billion needed to build the line is money better spent elsewhere.

Anne Arundel program tackles drug addiction but challenges remain

Among a growing number in Maryland, Jenna Keefer has struggled with drug addiction. Keefer moved in with her then-boyfriend when she was 18 years old. She said they started experimenting with different prescription pain pills before later turning to heroin.

Car crashes into Prince George’s pub at lunchtime leaving several injured

It was just another lunch hour at Babes Boys Tavern when things quickly took a turn for the worst. A car crashed into the side of the restaurant around 2 p.m. on the 15000 block of Marlboro Pike. Ten were injured. Seven were taken to the hospital, two of which had serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Over 30 million adults in the United States have kidney disease, according to the National Kidney Foundation. For Hispanics, the risk is nearly double that of all other Americans. A free screening opportunity in Anne Arundel County last weekend helped with raising awareness and getting those who are at risk to take an important first step in dealing with a potentially deadly disease.
