Washington Marijuana Statistics
In 2021, Washington collected $559.5 million in tax revenue from marijuana taxes and license fees, according to the Washington State Treasury. The state collected $272.7 million from liquor taxes and license fees. That’s a difference of $286.8 million.
Nearly half of marijuna sales revenue has gone to the Basic Health Plan Trust Account, which provides health care for low-income individuals and those who lack coverage.
Declines in marijuana-related arrests have likely saved the state more money, too, according to the Drug Policy Alliance. Between 2000 and 2010, Washington spent more than $200 million on marijuana law enforcement, an expense that has declined as cases of low-level offenses have dwindled.
