A first-of-its-kind, nationwide investigation of state lotteries by the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism found that stores that sell tickets are disproportionately clustered in lower-income communities in every state. In some states, these patterns also exist in Black and Hispanic neighborhoods.

The interactive map shows where lottery retailers are located and demographic features of neighborhoods in which they are located. Note: Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Utah and Nevada do not have lotteries.
