WASHINGTON – A Burke woman and an unidentified man were in critical condition Wednesday night following a morning shooting a few blocks from the White House.
Metropolitan Police said the man shot the woman, then turned the gun on himself.
Police identified the woman as Araceli Saenz, 25, of the 5000 block of Tibbitt Lane in Burke, Va. Police did not release the name of the man because his family had not yet been notified.
At 8:15 a.m., the two were driving on 14th Street Northwest when the car stopped and the woman got out. The two were “apparently involved in a domestic dispute,” police said.
The man also got out of the car and shot the woman in the head with a shotgun before turning the gun on himself, police said.
Both victims were taken to George Washington University Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, suffering from head wounds, a spokeswoman said.
Police cordoned off 14th Street, between I and K streets, during rush hour, said Metropolitan Police Officer Robert Garisto. -30-
