WASHINGTON, D.C.- The recent meningitis outbreak, which was caused by compound drugs, has resulted in 483 cases nationwide with 23 infections across Maryland including one death. Members of the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee held a hearing Thursday about the outbreak to find out what exactly went wrong and how to prevent a tragedy of this kind in the future. But to the lawmakers’ dismay, they did not get the answers they were hoping for from FDA Commissioner Dr. Peggy Hamburg.
