WASHINGTON– Hundreds of people gathered under the massive tent set up on the National Mall on Saturday to volunteer their time helping others.
President Barack Obama called for all Americans to take time out of the day during inauguration weekend to serve their communities. At the National Day of Service Summit the on Mall dozens of local volunteer organizations invited visitors to peruse their tables and participate in hands-on service projects.
At the Sunshine Mail Foundation’s booth, families sat down to make homemade cards for children who are homeless, in foster care or terminally ill. At the next booth over, visitors got the chance to write valentines for military veterans.
