ANNAPOLIS – Gov. Martin O’Malley delivered his final State of the State address Thursday to a joint session of the Maryland General Assembly. After his speech, Maryland lawmakers responded to O’Malley’s address:
“Maryland has a lot to be proud of. We’ve had a strong commitment to progressive priorities.”
– Gubernatorial candidate and Delegate Heather R. Mizeur, D-Montgomery
“It’s his last presentation of this and I know he’s very proud of the achievements that he’s had. A lot of us fundamentally disagree with some of the core to that.”
– Senate Minority Leader David R. Brinkley, R-Frederick
“Minimum wage, marijuana, universal pre-K … We will be tackling these progressive priorities moving forward.”
– Mizeur
“The governor must be using Common Core math equations for his numbers. He’s getting partial credit for his answers and they don’t add up.”
– Delegate Michael A. McDermott, R-Wicomico
“If people see the schools rated as high as they are, people will want to move to Maryland.”
– Senator Jennie M. Forehand, D-Montgomery
“I notice [O’Malley] didn’t mention that Maryland is number 44 for business-friendly states.”
– McDermott
“It was refreshing and optimistic to hear after all these years of hard work.”
– Delegate Anne Healey, D-Prince George’s
“This administration has been writing checks for eight years that they can’t cash, and the people of Maryland are going to have to pay for it.”
– McDermott
“I’m just really proud of Maryland because of the way things have been done and the money we have spent. [The O’Malley administration] cut the spending by $9.1 billion.”
– Forehand
“The governor’s theory fails economics 101.”
-Senator Richard F. Colburn, R-Dorchester
