ANNAPOLIS — Students from high schools around Maryland hit the beach at Sandy Point State Park today to plunge into the Chesapeake Bay where water temperatures were near freezing. The event was hosted by the Maryland Special Olympics to raise money for the organization and to raise awareness of mental disabilities and encourage this generation to change the rhetoric used to describe those who are mentally challenged. The annual Polar Bear Plunge will take place on Saturday at Sandy Point State Park. Proceeds from both events benefit the Maryland Special Olympics.
