WASHINGTON–Metro will not see an increase in fares or make major cuts in train service, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s board of directors decided Thursday in response to next year’s budget issues.
After talks of a 5 or 10-cent fare increase and a decrease of train frequency, the board decided to find other ways to balance the 12-month budget, which begins July 1.
The board, which has representatives from Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia and the federal government, will continue to have public hearings regarding potential cuts before it adopts a final budget.
