WASHINGTON– There weren’t any surprises for Maryland when the United States Census Bureau released its population estimates for 2014 on Wednesday.
Montgomery County remains the most populous jurisdiction in the state with over 1 million people, the only jurisdiction over that mark. Prince George’s County, Baltimore County, Baltimore City and Anne Arundel County round out the top five.
Howard County is still the fastest growing county in the state, with a 1.4 percent increase between 2013 and 2014 and 7.7 percent growth over the last five years.
Charles County, Prince George’s County, Montgomery County and Frederick County were also in the top five for population growth.
As a state, Maryland’s population is 5,976,670 with population growth of 0.6 percent over the last year.
Baltimore City’s population of 622,793 fell 0.1 percent from 2013 to 2014 but the city has grown 0.3 percent since 2010.
The Census Bureau estimates are as of July 1, 2014. The data can be found here.
