Rep. Donna Edwards, D-Fort Washington, earned endorsements from former Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan and State Sen. Karen Montgomery, D-Montgomery, on Tuesday, her first from Maryland’s most populous county.
“I am proud to endorse Donna Edwards for the United States Senate. Donna has a strong history of standing with Montgomery County families on economic fairness, environmental stewardship, and strengthening retirement programs for our seniors,” Duncan said.
“Her experiences and values make her a principled, progressive fighter with a unique, proven record of improving the lives of working families. Marylanders deserve a senator like that to follow in the footsteps of Senator Mikulski,” he added.
Montgomery also compared Edwards to the retiring senator she is seeking to replace,
“I am proud to endorse Donna Edwards. We need a tough, capable woman from Maryland to follow in the footsteps of another tough, capable woman from Maryland,” she said.
Edwards’ only announced opponent, Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Kensington, had previously run the table on Montgomery County endorsements, earning support from the entire county council and County Executive Ike Leggett among other elected officials.
