WASHINGTON, DC–The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) made an unprecedented decision to shut down the entire Metro subway system on Wednesday in order to check the condition of hundreds of underground electrical cables. The decision followed a fire at the McPherson Square station on Monday.
