COLLEGE PARK – Almost every state saw the percentage of residents without health insurance decrease between 2014 and 2015, in part because of the expansion of coverage under the Affordable Care Act. But some states saw larger drops than others. In 2015, 6.6 percent of Maryland residents did not have health insurance, which was 16 percent lower than the 7.9 percent of residents in 2014. New Hampshire saw a 35 percent drop during the same period, while in South Dakota the uninsured population actually increased 4 percent. In Texas, 17.1 percent of residents are uninsured, while in Massachusetts only 2.8 percent of residents are uninsured. Source: U.S. Census Bureau
