COLLEGE PARK, Maryland — Many libraries, schools and organizations across the state will take part in Read Across America Day, a national campaign focused on literacy. Read Across America Day was launched by the National Education Association in 1998 and is celebrated annually on March 2, Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodore Seuss Geisel, is best known for books like “The Cat in the Hat,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
Read Across America Day events and celebrations are happening across the state today and many are hosted by schools, public libraries (in Montgomery County, Anne Arundel County and Prince George’s County) and organizations, like United Way.
