KENSINGTON, Maryland — According to a recent study almost one-third of all Maryland children ages 10 to 17 were considered overweight or obese last year. But one Montgomery County middle school is taking a big step forward to help students shape up. Newport Mill Middle School recently received a new $100,000 fitness center to help keep students on the road to good health. Two other Maryland schools, one in Prince George’s County and the other in Baltimore City, were also recipients of a $100,000 fitness center awarded by the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils.
