This site provides a comprehensive view of key data for monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic in Maryland.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the use of COVID-19 Community Levels, which relies less heavily on case counts and more on hospitalization metrics. It takes into account:
- New COVID-19 hospital admissions per 100,000 people in the past week
- The seven-day average of the percentage of staffed inpatient hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients
- Total new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people in the past week
Counties are grouped into three tiers and the actions recommended by the CDC are as follows:
- LOW RISK: Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines. Get tested if you have symptoms. Wear a mask if you have symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19. Wear a mask on public transportation. You may choose to wear a mask at any time as an additional precaution to protect yourself and others.
- MEDIUM RISK: Take same actions as Low Risk Communities. If you are at high risk for severe illness, consider wearing a mask indoors in public and taking additional precautions.
- HIGH RISK: Wear a mask indoors in public and on public transportation. Stay up to date with COVID-19 Vaccines. Get tested if you have symptoms. If you are at high risk for severe illness, consider taking additional precautions.
