Proposed bill to prohibit universities from considering legacy admissions

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- A proposed bill would prohibit universities from considering a student’s legacy status in its admissions process. Universities must receive state funding to be affected under this bill. Even if colleges or universities do not consider legacy status, lawmakers are looking to make this binding for all higher education institutions. The bill’s sponsor says the goal is to make access to higher education fair and to promote campus diversity.
