MILWAUKEE — A star-studded lineup has graced the shores of Lake Michigan here at the Republican National Convention this week.
On a number of our convoluted routes required to decipher the blockaded streets around the convention, CNS staff has run into a slew of celebrities.
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson climbed into his limousine as the CNS staff explored the Brewhouse Inn & Suites of Milwaukee’s Brewery District.
We don’t know which was cooler, examining the original brewing kettle copper domes used by the old Pabst Brewery or getting a glimpse of Johnson’s quintessential blond, bed-head hair.
Professional basketball player and human rights activist Enes Kanter Freedom visited the convention.
The 6-foot-10-incher, who last played for the Boston Celtics in 2021, towered above his fellow Trump supporters.
The president of the UFC, Dana White, and professional wrestler Hulk Hogan both were on the bill to deliver speeches on the final evening of the convention.
Last and certainly not least, pro-Trump rapper Forgiato Blow’s new song “Trump Trump Baby,” featuring fellow rapper and model Amber Rose, was blasted from the big screen inside the Fiserv Forum on Tuesday night. The GOP audience received the effort in silence.
Mother Marjorie
Trump faithful are wringing every drop of political fervor out of their nominee’s close-call last week with an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
RNC attendees and delegates have been seen donning bulky bandages on their right ears, an homage to former President Donald Trump and protest against political violence.
But one speaker at the convention trumps them all.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, of Georgia, credited divine intervention for saving Trump.
She said in an interview with the Breitbart News Network that before the attempted assassination, the American flag behind Trump was tangled by the wind into a shape of an angel.
“It was like an angel coming down and it was the American flag tied,” she said.
We found the Prince George’s County Police
CNS staff finally located the members of the Prince George’s County Police Department recruited as part of beefed-up security for the convention.
Early Thursday morning, we ran into three officers inside the Milwaukee Skywalk System.
The officers were finishing the night shift, part of a force of about 4,000 out-of-town police working around Milwaukee.
The county’s police department sent 20 officers to assist the City of Milwaukee Police Department, a spokesperson told CNS.
The officers were tasked with staffing security checkpoints, traffic control and maintaining a security presence within hotels, among other duties.
Politics for sale
It doesn’t appear that politically-themed tomes are in high demand at the Milwaukee Public Library.
We found a double-shelved cart packed with political books that have been removed from library circulation and put on sale in the Bookseller, a book shop operated by the Friends of the Milwaukee Public Library.
The books cover the gamut, from “Let Trump Be Trump,” by former Trump 2016 campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and Maryland Republican National Committeeman David Bossie, to “Conservatives Without Conscience” by John Dean, former White House counsel in the Nixon administration who helped blow the lid off the Watergate scandal.
Good night, or good morning, whatever
Wisconsin really thought of everything before the GOP convention came to town.
Way back in December, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, signed a law that allowed 14 counties in and around Milwaukee to keep bars open until 4:00 a.m. during the convention. Normal closing times are 2:00 a.m. Sundays-Thursdays and 2:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The hours after the final night of the convention, Thursday night-Friday morning, were the last for the 4:00 a.m. closing time.
