Join us for a statewide virtual town hall
The Local News Network at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism is embarking on a year-long project called: “Youth mental health: What works?” — and we are kicking off our effort with a statewide town hall.
- WHEN: Monday, Oct. 28. from 7 – 8 p.m. ET
- WHERE: On Zoom
- WHO: We’re looking to hear from young people, parents and mental health professionals
Our goal is to find efforts across the state and beyond that succeed in addressing the many mental health challenges that young people face today. Our stories will be published on Merrill College’s Capital News Service website and republished in news outlets across the state.
To produce the best stories possible, our student journalists need to listen — to mental health professionals, teachers, parents, and above all, young people.
This town hall is your chance to tell us your concerns — and what you think we should be writing about.

The Local News Network is Merrill College’s effort to reinforce Maryland’s local news ecosystem with student-driven reporting. LNN received a grant from the Solutions Journalism Network’s Student Media Challenge to produce “Youth mental health — What works?”
The first stories in the project are expected to be published in January, with other stories appearing periodically through the spring and summer of 2025.
