As both the Hogan and Alsobrooks campaigns and their supporters gather to watch the election results roll in, both hope and anticipation run high.
At The Hotel in College Park, in Angela Alsobrooks’ home of Prince George’s County, attendees await results. Volunteer Bonnie Hadley, who worked in Largo making phone calls for the campaign, is optimistic about Alsobrooks’ chances.
“I’m confident,” Hadley told Capital News Service. “We’ve been really making a big effort, and I have a good feeling.”
As music blared in a room decked out in the Alsobrooks campaign’s signature hue of green, Hadley’s hopes for the night match the jubilant atmosphere of the room.
“We don’t want just a little win,” she said. “We want to kick ass tonight.”
The exultation grew as a cheer erupted for Kamala Harris’ projected win in the state.
Another volunteer, Judy Mickens-Murray of Upper Marlboro, also projected confidence.
“I think the energy is pretty good,” Mickens-Murray told CNS. “We believe in Angela. We believe that she has won this.”
Mickens-Murray also gave credit to former governor Larry Hogan, but cited control of the Senate as a major issue.
“We like Hogan,” she said, “but we need the Senate for the Democrats.”
In the Regatta Ballroom at the Graduate Hotel in Annapolis, where Hogan and his supporters are gathered there is a similar upbeat attitude, with roughly 100 attendees milling around the space chatting lightheartedly. TVs in the room play Fox News and CNN as food and drinks are served to guests.
Those at the Graduate Hotel to support Hogan are projecting confidence.
“I’m expecting him to win,” Jennifer Gray, an Annapolis Republican at the Hogan party, told CNS. “That’s my expectation.”
