BALTIMORE – It’s gearing up to be a star-spangled “Sailabration for” Baltimore. Maryland Governor O’Malley and naval officers teamed up to launch the Inner Harbor’s plan for the 1812 Bicentennial.
Operation Sail, which takes place next June, will bring dozens of tall ships and naval vessels from all around the world to Baltimore.
It’s all part of the celebration of the role of the Navy in the War of 1812, which was the first test of the U.S. Navy’s ability to protect America’a shores and keep the harbors safe.
State officials say they also hope the events will bring in as many one million tourists to the state next year.
