Harriet Tubman was born in Dorchester County, Maryland around the year 1820, according to PBS. While Tubman may be best known for her “Underground Railroad” voyages, she was also an accomplished military leader during the Civil War and a vocal activist in the women’s suffrage movement.
Throughout the month of February, which is recognized as Black History Month, we introduced you to historic African-American figures connected to Maryland, including Frederick Douglass, Henrietta Lacks, Harry A. Cole and Taraji P. Henson.
Although Tubman concludes our “Maryland’s Black History” series, she also kicks off our forthcoming Women’s History Month series.
