Supporters say the high speed train, which could reduce a trip between Baltimore and Washington to just 15 minutes, would be good for the environment. But opponents say the estimated $10-12 billion needed to build the line is money better spent elsewhere.

State House Democrats and educators want gambling revenue to fund public school system

State House democratic leaders and the Maryland State Education Association say more money is needed to meet the needs of the state’s public school system. They’re asking the General Assembly to support a constitutional amendment that would require all of the state’s proceeds from gambling to go to funding public education.

Maryland Dental Action Coalition promotes dental care improvements for Maryland adults

A legislative briefing on Wednesday reviewed the findings the Maryland Dental Action Coalition. The organization told the lawmakers there’s a need for improved access to dental care for adults in the state of Maryland as many are unable to receive treatment only until they are faced with a difficult dental problem. In the 2016 fiscal year, Maryland adults made over 42,000 trips to the emergency room for chronic dental conditions.

Governor Hogan launches another effort for redistricting reform

Governor Larry Hogan is again calling on state lawmakers to pass legislation that will overhaul the state’s current method for congressional redistricting. Hogan wants an independent, non-partisan commission to handle redistricting.
