Bio


Ian Schlakman, 33, grew up in Saint James, New York, where he went to Smithtown High School. He briefly studied at SUNY Stony Brook in the University’s political science program, and later became a Certified Information Systems Security Professional. He received his certification from the University of Maryland Baltimore College.

Schlakman, a small business owner, runs his own technology and educational consulting company. A former Maryland Green Party co-chair, he has earned several trade certifications from various technology companies, including Microsoft, Apple and CompTIA. He’s also a Maryland New Economy Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies.

He has been the chair of Baltimore Solidarity; a committee member at Democratic Socialists of America: National Electoral; a board member at the Baltimore BNote; the chair & founder of the Baltimore TimeBank; a board member of BLEWS (Black Jewish Forum); a member of the Chesapeake Sustainability Alliance; and a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout. He is the chair of Basic Income Action; vice chair of the Greater Baltimore Sierra Club; and an advocate for Worker Cooperatives with the Maryland Center of Employee Ownership.

Schlakman and his wife, Vanessa, live in Baltimore.

The Rev. Annie Chambers, 76, has had a long career as a civil rights activist. A former social worker, she helped found the Maryland Food Bank, Gold Star Mothers and the National Welfare Rights Coalition. Chambers is a radio host and a Baltimore Housing and Urban Development Resident Advisory Board delegate.
