Q&A

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING?

On the critical issues facing the people of our state we need a bold, tireless governor who can set an agenda of progress for all Marylanders. I will be that governor. From education to transportation, from economic development to economic justice, from sustainable healthcare to environmental sustainability, Larry Hogan has not served the people of Maryland. I will.

We need a change in the governor’s office.  We need a governor with a vision of progress for the future of Maryland, not just for the next year or two, but for the next 20 to 40 years to move our state forward. We need a governor who fights for Marylanders and for progress, who says Maryland is open to the future and ready to lead again.  Maryland can be a great, diverse, prosperous, welcoming community that works together for the good of our families and our neighbors.

LIST FIVE ISSUES YOU PLAN TO ADDRESS SHOULD YOU BE ELECTED

1. EDUCATION
As a member of the Commission on Innovation and Excellence in Education, I have worked hard to help develop recommendations which provide a substantive blueprint for improving education and opportunity for all Maryland children, especially those with significant challenges. I am running to ensure that the recommendations are fully implemented.

2. ECONOMY AND JOBS
Under my leadership Maryland will be “Open to the Future.” I will vigorously pursue opportunities for greater economic development and more family-supporting jobs, capitalizing on core competencies in technology, computers and manufacturing.  I will develop training programs with educational institutions so that Maryland workers have the skills companies need.

3. HEALTHCARE
I will be the strong leader Maryland needs to address our most significant health challenges – ensuring that all Marylanders have broad access to affordable, high-quality health care and prescription drugs, and finding solutions to the opioid epidemic by providing fast, effective relief for those suffering from addiction, prevention and treatment.

4. TRANSPORTATION
I will build and maintain a strong statewide transportation system that gives people choices and opportunities for mobility, and keeps our environment healthy.  Supporting effective, efficient public transit, faster, more reliable rail, better roads and safe bridges are essential for residents’ quality of life and for economic and job growth.

5. ENVIRONMENT
Maryland’s most significant environmental challenges are protection of the Chesapeake Bay, one of Maryland’s abundant natural treasures, and addressing climate change and its impacts. As governor I will protect and improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay, reduce harmful emissions and increase our reliance on renewable energy sources.
