Bio
Ben Jealous, 45, was born in Pacific Grove, California, and went to York School in Monterey. He earned a bachelor’s in political science from Columbia University and became a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, where he earned a master’s in comparative social research.
Jealous works as an investor in the Baltimore office for Kapor Capital, a firm that invests in companies working to create social change. He’s also a visiting professor at Princeton University. In 2008, at age 35, Jealous became the youngest president and CEO of the NAACP, a position he served in through 2012. Jealous has also worked as a community organizer and journalist.
Jealous is divorced from his ex-wife, Lia Epperson, and has two children.
Running Mate Susan Turnbull
Susan Turnbull, 65, has been vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee and the chairwoman of the Maryland Democratic Party. She’s also been a senior adviser and grant consultant to several members of Congress; an owner of an interior space planning company; and has served on various charitable boards. She’s also served as chairwoman of the DNC Women’s Leadership Forum and Women’s Caucus.
