Kevin Kamenetz, 60, grew up in Lochearn, Maryland, and attended Gilman High School in Baltimore. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Johns Hopkins University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law. 

Kamenetz was the Baltimore County Executive, a position he had since 2010. Before becoming county executive, he was a member of the Baltimore County Democratic Central Committee from 1982 to 1986 and from 1990 to 1998, serving as chair from 1992-1994. Meanwhile, he was the assistant state’s attorney, Baltimore, from 1982 to 1987, and a member of the Baltimore County Council (District 2) from 1994 to 2010.

Kamenetz had served as president of the Maryland Association of Counties from 2017 to 2018. He was also on the board of directors of Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore; board of visitors at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center; a member of Fort George G. Meade Regional Growth Management Committee; and a member of Baltimore Regional Transportation Board.

Kamenetz and his wife, Jill, lived in Owings Mills, Maryland, and have two sons. On the morning of May 10, 2018, Kamenetz died from a heart attack.

Valerie Ervin, 60, was a senior adviser from 2015 to 2018 to Maryland Working Families, an independent grassroots organization that advocates for meeting the needs of working families. She was also executive director of the Center for Working Families from 2014 to 2018. Ervin was the first African-American woman to serve on the Montgomery County Council and was chief of staff to the council’s president from 2002 to 2006. She’s been involved in education, as well as traffic safety.
