Bio
Rushern Baker III, 58, grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he attended Classical High School. He earned his bachelors and law degrees from Howard University.
Baker is the Prince George’s County Executive, a position he’s held since 2010. From 2014 to 2015 he was president of County Executives of America. Baker served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1994 to 2003, where he was on various subcommittees and task forces. He also served as executive director for the Community Teachers Institute in Lanham, Maryland.
Before law school, Baker served in the military as a Judge Advocate General Corps officer. After law school, he worked in housing and community development for the District of Columbia government, then at a nonprofit economic development corporation, the People’s Involvement Corp. of Washington, D.C.
Baker is the primary caregiver to his wife, Christa Beverly, who suffers from early onset Alzheimer’s. They reside in Cheverly, Maryland, and have three adult children.
Running Mate Elizabeth Embry
Elizabeth Embry, 40, served as the chief of the Criminal Division at the Maryland Attorney General’s office until 2018. Embry started as a law clerk and became deputy state’s attorney. She was also the interim director of the Baltimore Mayor’s Office for Criminal Justice and ran for mayor of Baltimore in 2016, finishing third out of 13 in the primary.
